About this board game
The Weimar Republic: Political Struggle in Germany, 1919-1933 is a card-driven game for 1-4 players about the fight for power in interwar Germany, with scenarios lasting from 3 to 8 hours.
Set after the Great War, the game follows the fragile new democracy from 1919 to 1933. Four factions compete for dominance: the democratic Coalition, the Soviet-backed Communist Party, Hitler’s National Socialists, and the far-right Radical Conservatives.
Across 15 years, divided into two rounds per year, players use faction-specific abilities to build influence across Germany’s regions and major cities. They maneuver through propaganda, parliamentary elections, street violence, economic influence, and ideological zeal while attempting to reshape the Republic.
- Agitation, reforms, recruitment, and deployment of fighting men
- Strikes, uprisings, assassinations, and coups
- Irregular general and regional elections that can radically shift local power
- Three historical eras, each with its own event deck
Initiative flows back and forth, so the political direction can change rapidly and unexpectedly. Although the factions compete fiercely, overlapping mechanics create opportunities to exploit opponents, including forming and breaking alliances.
Victory in The Weimar Republic is generally achieved through sudden death, with no final scoring or accumulation of separate objectives. A tutorial scenario can introduce new players in 90 minutes, while bot players allow any combination of factions in games for 1-4 players.
