Thorgal: The Board Game is a cooperative storybook adventure game for 1–4 players, with each scenario taking roughly 120 minutes. Players take on the roles of Thorgal, Aaricia, Jolan, or Kriss, a deadly female warrior, as they face dangerous journeys and uncover new stories.

The game includes 10 stand-alone scenarios, each played on a different map from the book of maps. These adventures do not form a campaign and include no legacy features, so different playgroups can enjoy them over an extended period. Every scenario presents its own goals, hidden opportunities, side quests, and vivid characters.

Players decide whether to travel together or split up to explore more areas at the same time. While investigating each map, characters gather resources, craft objects, and gain experience that advances their abilities. A storybook provides narrative descriptions for the encounters characters discover during their adventures.
