Thunderstone: Dragonspire

About this board game

Thunderstone: Dragonspire is a fantasy deck-building game for 1–5 players, with games lasting about 45 minutes. Players build stronger decks of heroes, weapons, supplies, spells, and other cards while battling monsters in a dangerous dungeon.

Before play begins, players randomly select Village and Hero cards to include in the game. Each player starts with a basic deck of weaker cards, then visits the village to purchase more powerful cards or level up heroes. Available heroes include mages, archers, thieves, and warriors, while supplies such as weapons, rations, and light help them reach deeper into the dungeon.

A dungeon deck is created from several groups of monsters, and a row of monsters is revealed for players to face. On a turn, a player chooses to visit the village or enter the dungeon. In the dungeon, they play their heroes, weapons, items, and spells to defeat one available monster, accounting for its abilities, strength, and susceptibility to different hero types.

Light matters as the dungeon grows deeper. Without enough light, a monster gains power, making supplies and careful deck building important. Defeated monsters enter the player’s deck, where they provide victory points and may also serve as money for future purchases. Players also gain experience that can upgrade heroes into more powerful versions.
