About this board game
Ticket to Ride: First Journey (U.S.) is a railway adventure for 2–4 players that takes about 30 minutes, adapting the Ticket to Ride experience for a younger audience.
Players collect colorful train cards and use them to claim routes between cities on a map of the United States. Each player begins with four train cards and two tickets, with every ticket showing two cities that must be connected by a contiguous path of their trains.
On your turn, choose whether to draw two train cards or claim a route. To claim a route, discard cards matching both its color and length—for example, two yellow cards for a yellow route that is two spaces long. Planning which routes to take is essential, especially when other players may block the connections you need.
- Complete tickets: Connect the two cities shown on a ticket, reveal it, and draw a new ticket.
- Replace blocked tickets: If neither ticket can be completed because the paths are blocked, spend your entire turn discarding both and drawing two new ones.
- Claim a special bonus: Connecting a West Coast city to an East Coast city earns a Coast-to-Coast ticket immediately.
The first player to complete six tickets wins. Alternatively, if a player places all twenty of their trains on the board, the player with the most completed tickets wins.
With straightforward choices, colorful route building, and a clear race toward completed tickets, Ticket to Ride: First Journey offers a compact introduction to collecting cards, claiming paths, and connecting cities across the United States.
