About this board game
To Unlimited, and Beyond is a card-and-chip game for 2–6 players that plays in about 10 minutes. Also known as Chip It, it challenges players to get rid of both the cards in their hand and the chips in front of them.
Each player begins with a random hand of cards and a few chips. On your turn, either play one or more cards of the same value to the center, beating the cards already there, or return two chips to the stock.
Chips let you adjust the value of the cards you play. With a red card, each chip taken from the stock adds 1 to that card’s value. With a yellow card, each chip taken adds the value of the card to itself. This lets different cards become equal: for example, a red 7 and a yellow 4 can each become 8 by taking two chips, allowing you to play a pair of 8s.
- Play cards that match in value and beat the current center play.
- Use chips to alter card values and create stronger combinations.
- Return two chips when you cannot or do not want to play.
- Win by having no cards and no chips remaining.
If every player passes in succession, the player who last played cards clears the pile and leads again, playing whatever they wish or returning two chips to pass the lead to the right. You remain in the round after passing, so choosing when to spend cards, take chips, or give up the lead is central to To Unlimited, and Beyond.
In the Chip It version, the cards use green and purple colors instead of red and yellow. Released in 2014, the game combines hand management, changing card values, and a race to empty two different kinds of resources.
