About this board game

Top Cap is a two-player board game for a 15-minute match, played on a 6×6 grid with bottle caps and a bottle in each player’s color. Each player begins with four bottle caps in their own color, while the corner closest to them shows their matching bottle.

On your turn, choose one of your bottle caps and count the caps of either color occupying adjacent spaces. Adjacency includes both orthogonal and diagonal spaces, so the surrounding position determines how far that cap must move.

Move the chosen cap exactly that many spaces in a straight line, either orthogonally or diagonally. Movement is restricted: a cap cannot leave the board, jump over another cap, land on a cap, or land on your own bottle.

  • Play on a 6×6 grid.
  • Control four bottle caps in your color.
  • Count adjacent caps to determine movement distance.
  • Move in a straight orthogonal or diagonal line.
  • Reach the opponent’s bottle to win.

The objective is direct but closely tied to positioning. Every surrounding cap can affect a move’s distance, while occupied spaces and the board edge limit where a cap can go. Choosing which cap to move—and where it can legally finish—is central to each turn.

You win immediately by moving one of your bottle caps onto the opponent’s bottle. However, if none of your bottle caps has a legal move on your turn, you lose. With its compact board, shared movement calculation, and clear win conditions, Top Cap offers a focused head-to-head challenge.
