About this board game

Tori-Tori: Endangered Species is a cooperative board game for 2–4 players, with play lasting about 60 minutes. Set on a peculiar Pacific island, it casts each player as an environmentalist working with colleagues to save the endemic Tori-tori bird and protect the wider ecosystem.

The island was once abundant and prosperous, but population growth and industrial development now threaten its natural balance. To succeed, the team must respond to a changing series of hazards while working toward a more environmentally friendly future for the town and industry.

Each turn begins with the dice, which determine how the island acts. Depending on the result, cats may move or hunt, rain may fall in one sector, or industrial pollution may increase. These events create fresh problems for the team to address during the next phase.

  • Protect the endangered Tori-tori bird.
  • Help rabbits find the native vegetation they need to eat.
  • Respond to droughts, hungry cats, pollution, and spreading fires.
  • Develop new actions through study and specialization.

After the island acts, players spend their action points carefully. Early in the game, they have only basic actions available, but as the game progresses, studying and specializing unlocks new ways to influence the island and preserve its life and health.

Victory requires transforming the town and industry into environmentally friendly alternatives. However, if any native species goes extinct, the team immediately loses. Tori-Tori: Endangered Species challenges the group to coordinate its efforts before the island’s interconnected ecosystem is pushed too far.
