About this board game
Tortuga 1667 is a social pirate game for 2–9 players that plays in about 40 minutes. Set in the Caribbean in 1667, it casts players as pirates working together to steal the treasure from a Spanish Galleon—while secretly considering whether to keep it for themselves.
Trust is temporary in Tortuga 1667. You may need your shipmates, including potential enemies, to help attack the Galleon, yet those same players could soon launch a mutiny or turn against you. Players must judge shifting loyalties, communicate carefully, and identify who is truly on their team.
The game’s community Event cards make knowledge and timing especially important. Since players do not hold a hand of Event cards, it can be valuable to spend an action viewing cards before deciding what to reveal. Harmful Events can damage your team, while knowing their locations may let you force an opponent to reveal one at the worst possible moment.
Vote cards add another layer of tactical choice. Each card has sections for Attacks, Mutinies, and Brawls, and its usefulness depends partly on your pawn’s location. You may need to accept a failed attack to preserve the right vote for a later mutiny against a captain.
- Play with 2–9 players in approximately 40 minutes.
- Rely on communication, deduction, and carefully timed betrayals.
- Use Event cards and Vote cards to influence attacks, mutinies, and brawls.
Released in 2017, Tortuga 1667 is Volume 2 in the Dark Cities Series by Facade Games. Its central challenge is knowing when cooperation serves your interests—and when the moment is right to betray your fellow pirates.
