About this board game

Trambahn is a two-player card game about expanding Munich’s successful new tramway, with a 45-minute play time and a 2015 release. Each player competes for the contract by developing tram lines and bringing passengers to them.

In late-19th-century Munich, the growing tramway needs expansion. Players use cards on a grid to plan routes, provide passengers, and pay for the construction of new lines.

  • Passengers: Use cards as passengers for your trams.
  • Suggested stops: Lay out cards to propose stops on new routes.
  • Money: Spend cards to pay for those routes.

Building a route requires careful attention to two conditions. Cards used as suggested stops must match colors and be placed in ascending order, creating a structured challenge as each new tram line takes shape.

Route construction alone is not enough. You must also bring passengers to the relevant tram line in order to score victory points, linking your route plans with the people who use them.

The cards are presented as postcards featuring Munich streetcars and historical parts of the city. This distinctive presentation gives Trambahn a strong sense of place while supporting its central contest: use your cards effectively, expand the tramway, and compete for the contract.
