About this board game

Triple Yahtzee is a classic five-dice game for 1–10 players, with a playing time of about 45 minutes. It uses the regular Yahtzee rules while expanding each game from 13 categories to 39.

On each turn, a player rolls five dice up to three times, hoping to achieve one of the available categories. Examples include three of a kind, four of a kind, a straight, and a full house. Players enter a score for a category when possible, or record a zero when a category cannot be filled.

The key difference in Triple Yahtzee is the three-column score sheet. Each column represents the same set of categories, but applies a different multiplier to the result:

  • First column: scores are added normally.
  • Second column: scores are doubled.
  • Third column: scores are tripled.

This makes column placement an important part of the game. For example, four sixes score 24 points in the first column, but the same result is worth 72 points in the third column. Strong rolls therefore have greater value when assigned to the column with the highest multiplier.

Players continue entering scores or zeros until all 39 category spaces have been completed. The scores are then totaled and compared. Released in 1972, Triple Yahtzee preserves the familiar rhythm of rolling, choosing categories, and managing difficult scoring decisions while giving each result three possible values.
