About this board game
Triumph & Glory: Battles of the Napoleonic Wars 1796-1809 is a two-player wargame with an approximately 360-minute play time, covering five major battles from the Napoleonic Wars.
Designed for the GMT Games Gameplayer’s Series, the game places playability at the center of its system. Its activation marker mechanic creates uncertainty in initiative, adding tension as players determine when formations and forces can act.
The scenarios span more than a decade of Napoleonic warfare, from Castiglione in 1796 through the major 1805 and 1809 campaigns. The battles represented are:
- Castiglione (1796)
- Austerlitz (1805)
- Raab (1809)
- Aspern-Essling (1809)
- Wagram (1809)
The game uses a detailed operational scale. Each turn represents 75 minutes, while each hex covers 325 yards, or approximately 297 meters. Strength points represent approximately 200 infantrymen, 150 cavalrymen, or four artillery guns.
Triumph & Glory includes 1,200 counters and two back-printed mapsheets, providing the components for its five battles. The system was later taken over by Frederic Bey for the Jour de Gloire system and was also used for GMT’s Borodino: Battle of the Moskova, 1812.
