About this board game

Triumphant Fox: Rommel’s Finest Hour – The Gazala Battles May-June 1942 is an operational simulation for one or two players, with a listed playing time of 180 minutes. It recreates the Gazala battles fought from 26 May to 21 June 1942.

The game uses a player-interactive formation activation system, similar to the system featured in Tunisia 43 and Piercing the Reich. This mechanism shapes how formations become active during play, supporting an operational approach to the campaign.

Seven scenarios are included, with three designed for training. Playing time can vary considerably by scenario and session, ranging from 30 minutes to more than 10 hours. The game map uses a scale of 3.5 kilometers per hex, while units are represented at regiment or battalion scale.

  • 240 die-cut counters
  • One 22 × 34 inch game map
  • Rules booklet with historical commentary
  • Player aid cards
  • One 10-sided die

Triumphant Fox offers a focused way to explore the Gazala battles through multiple scenarios and a detailed operational scale. Its combination of historical commentary, variable time scale, and formation activation makes it suitable for both introductory training games and longer campaign sessions.

Alea Magazine No. 22 included one new scenario, errata, and additional rules for the game. The result is a flexible simulation with options for solo or two-player play and a broad range of session lengths.
