About this board game
Troia is a two-player board game for a 40-minute contest between Greek and Trojan forces, inspired by the siege of Troy described in Homer’s Iliad. Players seek the favour of the deities while helping their heroes and pursuing a decisive victory.
Players alternate turns offering cards to a chosen deity. To make an offering, the active player discards one or more cards from their hand until the total reaches or exceeds the number beside that deity on the Olympus, as oriented toward the active player. At least one card in the offering must match the chosen deity.
After the offering, the player gains that deity’s favour and moves the deity to its closest location on Olympus. Other deities shift by one position when necessary, and the chosen deity’s special ability takes effect immediately. The changing arrangement of Olympus makes each offering an important decision.
- Offer cards to deities to gain their favour.
- Use immediate divine abilities to influence the battle.
- Move heroes connected to the gods through distinct Greek or Trojan offerings.
- Race toward a faction-specific victory condition.
Each hero is linked to one deity. That connection is shown by an offering that differs according to whether the hero belongs to the Greek or Trojan side; a smaller offering represents the opponent’s offering on the other side.
If a player ends a turn with at least two heroes in the opponent’s Protection area, they may advance their faction’s objective. The Greek player can build the Trojan Horse, while the Trojan player can advance Hector through the Greek ships. In Troia, the Greeks win immediately by completing the Trojan Horse, while the Trojans win by moving the Hector/Paris token through all four sections.
