About this board game
Tsuro of the Seas is a tile-laying survival game for 2–8 players, with play lasting about 40 minutes. Each player guides a ship across a 7×7 game board, aiming to remain on the board longer than everyone else.
On each turn, players add wake tiles to the board. Every tile has two wake connections on each edge, and together the tiles form a connected network of paths. When a wake is placed in front of a ship, that ship follows the wake to its end. A ship that sails off the board is removed from the game, putting its player out of contention.
The game’s distinctive danger comes from daikaiju tiles, which represent sea monsters and other creatures of the deep. These tiles can move and feature five arrows: one for each cardinal direction and one for rotation.
- Roll two six-sided dice on the active player’s turn.
- On a total of 6, 7, or 8, the daikaiju move; on any other total, they stay where they are.
- Roll one die to determine movement: results from 1 to 5 make each daikaiju follow its matching arrow, while a 6 adds a new daikaiju tile to the board.
If a daikaiju hits a wake tile, ship, or another daikaiju tile, the object it hits is removed from the game. This creates another way for a player to be ousted, while additional monsters make the board increasingly dangerous.
With its connected wake paths, unpredictable dice-driven movement, and escalating threat from the deep, Tsuro of the Seas challenges players to keep sailing while the board turns against them. The player whose ship stays on the board the longest wins.
