About this board game

Tute is a Spanish trick-taking card game for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 20 minutes. Players compete to win valuable cards, score declarations, and claim the final-trick bonus.

The game uses a 40-card Spanish deck divided into Oros (coins), Espadas (spades), Copas (cups), and Bastos (clubs). The 8s and 9s are removed. The classic format is for two players, while the most played version is Tute in Pairs, in which four players form two teams.

In the partnership game, all cards are dealt and the final card determines the trump suit. Players must follow suit when possible, play a higher card when they can, and use a trump card if they cannot follow suit. Trumps defeat other suits, and the winning team places the trick in its baza, a pile of captured cards.

  • Build your score from card values collected in the baza.
  • Declare combinations such as veinte for 20 points and las cuarenta for 40 points.
  • Collect all four Kings to declare tute and immediately win the round.
  • Earn 10 additional round points for winning the last trick.

Declarations become available after a player or their partner has begun a baza, adding timing and risk to every successful trick. Since the deck is fully dealt in Tute in Pairs, reading the played cards and judging when to spend a trump are central to team strategy.

Rounds continue until a player or pair reaches the agreed game-point goal, commonly three or six points. With its traditional Spanish suits, strict play requirements, and rewarding card combinations, Tute combines sharp tactical decisions with memorable partnership play.
