About this board game
Twin Peaks is a regimental-level American Civil War battle game for 1–4 players, with a listed play time of 780 minutes. Published by GMT Games in 2014, it is the sixth installment in the Great Battles of the American Civil War series.
The game includes two complete battles: Cedar Mountain, fought on August 9, 1862, and South Mountain, fought on September 14, 1862. Each engagement presents a different moment in the war, from Stonewall Jackson’s attack on Nathaniel Banks’s isolated division to the Union advance through the lightly held mountain gaps after Lee’s Maryland campaign began.
Twin Peaks uses the series’ interactive chit-pull system to reflect the chaotic nature of 19th-century battlefields. The rules are designed for regimental-level play, while the long-running GBACW system remains stable enough to accommodate battle-specific additions.
- Two full battle games: Cedar Mountain and South Mountain
- Two full-size maps printed on one double-sided mapsheet
- Fatigue and difficult terrain are central features of both battles
- Optional fatigue rules are mandatory in these scenarios
- Cedar Mountain includes optional units that could have joined the battle
Both scenarios highlight the impact of late-summer heat and challenging ground on battlefield performance. The Cedar Mountain battle also offers additional units that might have entered the action, while South Mountain begins with the Union Army moving to exploit a potential opening in Lee’s divided forces.
Experienced players can play either battle in one sitting. With its historical situations, interactive activation mechanism, and two substantial engagements, Twin Peaks offers a focused entry in the Great Battles of the American Civil War series.
