About this board game
Typeset is a word-building game for 1–6 players that plays in about 15 minutes. As old-fashioned typesetters, you build words letter by letter, placing incoming consonants and using a bank of vowels to complete your player card.
On each turn, a consonant is randomly revealed for everyone to use. Every placed letter must go into the leftmost empty space of a line, creating a puzzle that becomes increasingly difficult as more letters appear. You may freely use vowels before or after the revealed consonant, provided your vowel bank has not run out.
- Build words from randomly revealed consonants and your available vowels.
- Use tools of the trade and special abilities to twist the rules.
- Earn bonus wild letters by taking difficult-to-use letters or activating the special ability.
- Score based on word length rather than the value of individual letters.
Typeset rewards careful planning, but chance can change the possibilities from turn to turn. Certain consonants become more desirable, while awkward letters can challenge your remaining spaces. Tools and ability cards create opportunities for combos, helping you secure the wild letters needed to finish your word puzzle.
After every five letters, each player chooses whether to stop and score their cards or continue for another five. Extending your run could produce a beautifully fitting set of words—or ruin the arrangement you have already built.
Designed for solo play or a group of fellow typesetters, Typeset is easy to teach, built to travel, and highly replayable thanks to its wealth of ability cards. Plan, place, and decide how far to push your luck in this compact printing-press puzzle.
