About this expansion

Tzolk’in: The Mayan Calendar – Mini Expansion 2 is a 2013 mini expansion for 2–4 players, with a play time of about 90 minutes. It adds one monument and one starting wealth tile, introducing new timing and setup choices.

The Bonus Monument scores its points immediately when constructed rather than at the end of the game. Its value depends on which quarter of the game you reach: building it in the first quarter earns 40 points, while the second, third, and fourth quarters award 31, 22, and 13 points respectively.

  • First quarter: 40 points
  • Second quarter: 31 points
  • Third quarter: 22 points
  • Fourth quarter: 13 points

Each Food Day counts as the final day of its quarter for this monument. Even if a Food Day occurs one day late because a player used the time-speeding privilege of the Starting Player Space, it still marks the quarter’s end for scoring purposes. This makes the monument’s value depend closely on when you choose to build it.

The Bonus Starting Wealth Tile provides 6 corn and 4 wood, but moves you down one step on the brown temple. In a 2- or 3-player game, drawing this tile while placing dummy workers also requires one extra dummy worker: 7 in a 3-player game or 13 in a 2-player game.

The rules suggest using the round, flat markers in the non-player colors to represent dummy workers. These markers help distinguish dummy workers from players’ workers, and are recommended even when this tile is not in use. Tzolk’in: The Mayan Calendar – Mini Expansion 2 offers a compact addition centered on precise timing, immediate rewards, and a meaningful starting trade-off.
