About this board game
Ubongo: Das Kartenspiel is a simultaneous card puzzle game for 2–4 players that plays in about 20 minutes. Across six rounds, players race to connect cards by matching symbols on adjacent edges.
At the start of each round, every player receives nine cards at random from the appropriate deck. Each card shows six Ubongo pieces arranged in a 2×3 grid. The challenge is to connect seven of those nine cards into one valid layout.
Two cards connect when they are placed next to each other and a pair of symbols on one card touches the matching pair of symbols on the adjacent card. Everyone works at the same time, creating a tense contest of speed and accuracy.
- Round 1: Use nine cards from the appropriate deck.
- Round 2: Flip those nine cards over and use their other sides.
- Rounds 3–6: Receive cards from two new decks for each round.
The first player to correctly lay down seven connected cards shouts “Ubongo” and earns 10 points. Every other player scores points equal to the number of connected cards on their table.
Careful checking matters: if a player has made a mistake while placing cards, including the player who ended the round, they score zero points for that round. After six rounds of rapid card-linking puzzles, the player with the highest score wins. With its compact format and simultaneous play, Ubongo: Das Kartenspiel turns matching symbols into a focused race against the other players.
