About this board game
Unconditional Surrender! Case Blue is a two-player World War II strategy game with an approximately 90-minute playing time, covering the military campaigns fought in southern Russia during 1942–1943. One player commands the Axis forces, while the other controls the forces of the Soviet Union.
This compact, free print-and-play game uses 80 counters, a small map, and a shorter rulebook to present the core of the systems from Unconditional Surrender! World War 2 in Europe. The game was released in 2010, and GMT Games later printed it with physical counters in issue #28 of its C3I magazine in 2014.
Units operate at army and air fleet level, with each hex representing 30 miles and each turn representing one month. Movement and combat are integrated into a combined activation, allowing the game to resolve military operations through a unified system rather than separate movement and battle phases.
- Simple stacking: Each hex can hold up to one air unit and one ground unit.
- Streamlined counters: Counters contain no combat or movement factors.
- Single combat system: One combat resolution sequence and Combat Results Table handles both air and ground combat, with different results for each type.
- Flexible arrivals: Units and events can enter play according to either a historical or variable timeline.
Unconditional Surrender! Case Blue offers a focused way for two players to explore a pivotal Eastern Front campaign while learning the central mechanics of a larger European-theater design.
