About this board game
Urbanization is a strategy board game for 2–4 players that takes about 75 minutes to play. Set across the period from the beginning of the Industrial Revolution to modern times, it challenges players to guide a rural area through sweeping development.
Each player leads a village through difficult early stages, working to attract citizens by building houses. As development continues, the landscape changes: factories are erected, populations grow, and villages gradually become prospering cities.
The central challenge is efficiency. Players must develop their cities effectively as they compete to create the strongest urban area by the end of the game. The player who develops their city most efficiently is victorious.
- Guide a village from rural beginnings to modern urban development.
- Build houses to attract citizens.
- Erect factories as the settlement grows.
- Compete through gameplay with no random elements.
With no random elements influencing play, Urbanization focuses on the choices players make as they shape their settlements. Its structured journey from villages to cities gives the game a clear sense of progress while keeping attention on efficient development.
Released in 2012, Urbanization also includes the expansion The Inventions in the game package. Together, the core game and its included expansion present a focused city-development experience centered on growth, citizens, factories, and careful urban planning.
