About this board game
Vampire is a card game for 3–5 players with a playing time of about 30 minutes, released in 2000 as part of the Goldsieber à la Carte line.
The goal is to meld sets of vampires from six different suits. Players build their melds while cards are drawn, working toward broad coverage across the suits and managing the strength of the sets they create.
The game ends when either all cards have been drawn or one player has formed melds in all six suits. This gives the game two possible stopping points: the deck can run out, or a player can complete a meld in every suit first.
- Play with 3–5 players.
- Build vampire melds in six suits.
- The game lasts about 30 minutes.
- Part of the Goldsieber à la Carte line.
When the game ends, the player or players with the weakest meld in each suit are discarded. A suit with no meld counts as a zero-meld, so leaving a suit empty can matter during this final comparison.
All cards that remain contribute their value to each player’s total. Cards are worth either one or two, making the surviving cards relevant after the weakest melds in each suit have been removed.
Vampire has been described as a multiplayer version of Lost Cities. Its central challenge comes from combining set-building across six suits with the end-game discard process and the values of the cards left in play.
