About this board game
Victus: Barcelona 1714 is a cooperative board game for 1–4 players, with games lasting about 180 minutes. Players assume the roles of the senior military leadership responsible for defending Barcelona during the Bourbon siege, from 25 July 1713 to 11 September 1714.
Working together, the players must protect the city from the assaults of the Franco-Spanish forces and prevent Barcelona from surrendering. The challenge is shared: the defense succeeds only if the city remains standing until the end of the game.
The game’s central objective is clear:
- Defend Barcelona throughout the siege.
- Resist the assaults of the Bourbon forces.
- Avoid surrender until the game ends.
If the players manage to keep Barcelona from falling before the end of the game, everyone wins. If the city falls or surrenders, all players lose, making cooperation essential from beginning to end.
Set against the historic siege of Barcelona, Victus: Barcelona 1714 focuses on the shared responsibility of military command and the pressure of defending a city under sustained attack. Its 2015 release presents a team-based struggle in which the outcome belongs to the group rather than to an individual player.
