About this board game

Völuspá is a tile-laying game for 2 to 5 players, with a playing time of approximately 45 minutes. Inspired by the oldest poem of Norse mythology, it brings powerful gods, dangerous creatures, and forgotten races into an ever-changing struggle for dominance.

On each turn, players place tiles featuring twelve different characters and creatures from Norse mythology. These tiles possess powers that can block, capture, or intimidate, allowing players to control other tiles and shape the developing story.

The balance of power can change from one game to the next as a new force rises to dominance. Players score points by dominating other tiles, and the player with the highest score at the end wins.

  • Tile laying: Build the game’s evolving arrangement by playing tiles with mythological characters and creatures.
  • Character powers: Use distinct abilities to block, capture, or intimidate opposing tiles.
  • Changing dominance: Experience a different unfolding struggle each time you play.
  • Included expansion: The 25-tile “Saga of Edda” module adds strategic opportunities and replayability.

Völuspá is easy to learn while offering considerable depth of play. Its focus on positioning, tile control, and changing dominance makes each decision part of the wider mythological contest.

Released in 2012, Völuspá is a reimagining and retheming of the previously released game Kachina. It was nominated for the Golden Geek Abstract Game award in 2013.
