About this board game

Walkie Talkie is a cooperative word game for 2–8 players that takes about 4 minutes to play. Work together under a strict time limit to play as many cards as possible, earn points, and clear every hand before time runs out.

Each player starts with six cards, held exactly as dealt. Every card has a letter on one side and a color on the other. To begin, place one card from the deck letter-side up and another color-side up, then start the timer for 30 seconds per player.

Everyone plays simultaneously. A letter card can be played onto the letter pile when you name something that begins with that letter and matches the color currently showing. A color card can be played onto the color pile when you name something of that color that begins with the letter on top of the letter pile.

For example, with a “B” beside yellow, you might say “Banana!” With orange beside an “L,” you could say “Lion!” Words cannot be repeated, and you cannot name the color shown on the color card, keeping communication quick and challenging.

  • Say “Roger!” to make everyone flip the cards in their hands, changing letters into colors and colors into letters.
  • Say “Over!” to make all players pass their cards to the left.
  • Use the shared word challenge and limited time to decide when to play, flip, or pass.

When the timer ends, score the stars on your played letter cards, then subtract one point for every card left unplayed. The more cards your team gets down, the higher the score. With its simultaneous play and rapid-fire word associations, Walkie Talkie turns a tiny deck and a few minutes into an intense team challenge.
