About this board game
War at Sea (Third Edition) is a two-player naval simulation of Second World War battles in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea, with approximately 180 minutes of play time. Released in 2007, it is the classic game designed by John Edwards of Jedko Games and reproduced by L2 Design Group.
The game features the major battleships and aircraft carriers of the belligerent sides. Orders of battle are provided for the British, German, Russian, French, Italian, and United States navies, bringing the principal fleets of the conflict into one historical game.
War at Sea includes a one-piece die-cut map mounted on heavy board, along with the classic rules and the most recent rules used in tournament play at WBC. The component set includes 5/8-inch by 1.25-inch counters and 5/8-inch hit markers.
- Naval battles in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea
- Orders of battle for six national navies
- One-piece die-cut map on heavy board
- Classic rules plus the latest WBC tournament rules
Almost every known variant counter is included in the mix. These additions include Frogmen, the French Navy, one-factor air power, the Kirov, the Argus, Force G, Gibraltar naval guns, English Channel mines, and Admirals.
The counters also carry variant RAIDER backs, although those backs are not used in this game. They are included for consistency with the wider Victory at Sea system. War at Sea was planned as the first of three games covering the Atlantic, the Pacific, and a linking game.
