About this board game
War in the East: The Russo-German Conflict, 1941-45 is a two-to-six-player simulation of the Russo-German war at corps and division level, with games lasting about 480 minutes.
Covering the entire conflict from the Axis invasion of Russia to the final destruction of the Axis armies four years later, the game places critical resource decisions in the hands of the Russian player. The Axis player receives a fixed reinforcement rate, while Russia must decide which types of units to produce by allocating available resources.
These production choices are central to the campaign, reflecting the pressures that shaped the historical war. The rules also account for the major conditions and forces that influenced operations across the Eastern Front.

Beyond the full campaign, War in the East includes four yearly scenarios, each focused on a key point in the conflict from 1941 through 1944. These shorter historical situations cover the Barbarossa Campaign, the Stalingrad Campaign, Kursk, and the Destruction of Army Group Center.
First released in 1974, the game was later reissued as War in the East: The Russo-German Conflict, 1941-45 (Second Edition), forming part of War in Europe. Its corps- and division-level scope, production system, and broad selection of campaign and scenario options create a substantial simulation of the Eastern Front.
