About this board game

War in the Pacific: The Campaign Against Imperial Japan, 1941-45 is a very-high-complexity simulation for 1-6 players, covering the Pacific Theater of Operations from the Japanese attack on December 7, 1941, through the closing Allied assaults of 1945. Playing time ranges from approximately 360 minutes for the Midway scenario to more than 200 hours for the full experience.

This monster-sized game presents the conflict across a seven-section map representing roughly 30% of the globe. Cardboard playing pieces move and engage in combat across a hexagonal grid, which regulates movement much like a chessboard.

War in the Pacific is designed to support multiple levels of simulation and includes scenarios for different portions of the conflict. Its extensive playing aids and displays help organize the many elements represented during play.

  • Seven colored soft map sheets, each measuring 22 by 34 inches
  • 3,200 die-cut playing pieces
  • Air/Surface Tactical Display and Allied and Japanese Air Displays
  • Allied and Japanese Naval Task Force Displays
  • Off-Map Movement Display and multiple turn, cycle, and general record tracks
  • Two charts and tables booklets, a 56-page rules booklet, and a 12-page scenarios booklet

The game also includes two dice, two plastic storage trays, playing aids, displays, cycle tracks, and errata dated December 1978. Together, these components create a large-scale tabletop treatment of the Pacific campaign, from its opening attack to its final operations.
