War of the Triple Alliance is a two-player historical wargame that recreates the conflict between Paraguay and the allied forces of Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay in approximately 150 minutes.

Set during the largest conflict in South American history, the game reflects Paraguay’s early offensives, the Allies’ growing strength, and the devastating war of attrition that followed. Its rules are designed to be simple and intuitive while preserving the central dilemmas faced by the opposing commanders.

Paraguay begins with a powerful army and the opportunity to advance into Argentine and Brazilian territory, but its replacement pool cannot sustain prolonged losses. The Allied player must contain the initial onslaught and gain time. As Allied armies grow, the strategic focus shifts toward conquering Asunción and other important cities before the game ends.

Players must carefully manage their forces, timing, and route across the map. Paraguay may strike south toward strategic cities or move north into Mato Grosso, while the Allies can pursue a direct advance toward Asunción or attempt to bypass the formidable fortifications along the Paraguay River.

Cards add historical events and meaningful choices beyond the battlefield. Players may seek immediate combat reinforcements, place victory point cards into play, or alter the game’s duration to support a longer-term plan. Battles are resolved in a patterned way, keeping the options clear while creating difficult decisions.
