About this board game

Warhammer Age of Sigmar (Second Edition) Core Rules is a two-player tabletop strategy game designed for battles lasting around 90 minutes. Build and paint armies of warriors, then lead them into fast-paced conflicts across the fantastical Mortal Realms.

These core rules expand the battlefield with powerful realm-based mechanics. When creating an army, you can choose its home realm and replace a normal artefact with one of 84 realm-specific magic items. Battles also gain unique command abilities, Realmscape Features, and seven spells associated with each realm.

  • Command points: Gain a point each turn, plus additional points from warscroll battalions, to fuel powerful command abilities.
  • Endless spells: Summon physical spell models that remain in play until dispelled and can be moved by either player.
  • Hero protection: Keep vulnerable Heroes near friendly units to benefit from the new Look Out, Sir! ability.
  • Summoning: Bring reinforcements onto the table through army-specific resources and thematic in-game achievements, without spending reinforcement points in matched play.

The edition also refines the flow of battle. Measuring is officially based from bases, piling in is more flexible, and every eligible unit must participate in combat. Shooting units can still fire while engaged, but cannot shoot out of combat, making fast and durable attackers valuable for disrupting enemy lines.

Magic receives a distinctive new focus, with revised Arcane Bolt and Mystic Shield spells, longer-range unbinding, and realm-specific spell options. Turn priority remains uncertain, but tied rolls now favor the player who went first in the previous battle round, adding tactical depth while reducing randomness.

Whether you enjoy strategic battles, army building, painting, or creating stories within the setting, Warhammer Age of Sigmar provides the rules framework for bringing your collection to the tabletop.
