About this board game

WARS Trading Card Game is a two-player science-fiction trading card game with an approximately 45-minute play time, released in 2004. It is set in Earth-year 2391, when alien warriors emerge through a vast tear in the fabric of the universe to confront an already embattled humanity.

The cosmic rupture stretches across the galaxy and slices through the asteroid field near Jupiter. This burning opening becomes known as the Mumon Rift, setting the stage for a conflict between humanity and forces from beyond the known universe.

WARS TCG was created as a new game in a proprietary science-fiction universe while reviving the mechanics of Decipher’s original Star Wars CCG. That connection gives the design a notable place in trading card game history, while its setting and identity remain distinct.

  • Players: 2
  • Play time: Approximately 45 minutes
  • Release year: 2004
  • Setting: A future Earth threatened by alien warriors from the Mumon Rift

The game also features an art concept developed by John Howe, known for his work on the Lord of the Rings movies. Unlike the original Star Wars CCG’s alignment-oriented presentation, WARS TCG uses the same deck backs throughout, without an equivalent good-versus-evil distinction.

WARS Trading Card Game is currently listed as being on hiatus by Decipher. For collectors and fans of science-fiction card games, it offers a glimpse at an ambitious proprietary universe built around a classic CCG-inspired foundation.
