About this board game

Waterloo 200 is a tactical Napoleonic battle game for 1–3 players, played in about 120 minutes. Set on 18 June 1815, it recreates the decisive clash between Napoleon Bonaparte’s Armée du Nord and the coalition led by Wellington on the plains of Waterloo.

Players command the French Army or the Seventh Coalition, with the opportunity to change how the battle unfolds—and potentially alter the course of nineteenth-century European history. The game uses more than 200 wooden and plastic components on a colorful 86 × 64 cm mapboard, with pieces produced by Italian artisanal manufacturers and painted using an “A buratto” technique.

The core rules are designed for accessibility: the introduction is just six pages, and a complete game lasts five turns. Each turn represents approximately two hours, while one centimetre on the map corresponds to about 70 metres. A full-strength counter represents a leader or brigade, depending on the unit’s type, training, morale, and leadership.

  • Fog of war: Wooden blocks are positioned so opponents cannot see the forces they represent.
  • Optional rules: Add depth with cavalry abilities such as Charge, Scouting, and Impetus.
  • Enhanced realism: Include artillery bombardment, retreat, combined attacks, and morale rules.

Waterloo 200 supports a straightforward entry-level experience, while its optional rules offer a more detailed simulation for players seeking additional realism. Its compact five-turn structure keeps the battle focused as commanders make pivotal decisions across the historic battlefield.

Released in 2015, Waterloo 200 is available in English, German, French, Spanish, and Italian.
