About this board game

Werwölfe is a role-based group game for 6–24 players, with a typical play time of 60 minutes. Players take on secret character roles as villagers attempt to unmask the werewolves, while the werewolves hunt at night and try to convince everyone that they are innocent.

Each game creates a tense clash between hidden identities and competing claims. As a villager, your task is to identify the danger within the group. As a werewolf, you must protect your secret while participating in the village’s discussions and surviving suspicion.

The set includes 25 playing cards, a character values card, and instructions. You will also need a note and pen to support the game. The available roles give the group several distinct character options beyond the basic villagers and werewolves.

Released in 2017, Werwölfe is designed for larger groups and players of all ages. Its 6–24 player range makes it different from the 2014 edition of Ultimate Werewolf, which supports 5–30 players.

The two editions also differ in their character lineups. Both include 12 Villagers, a Seer, Witch, and Hunter, while Werwölfe has six Werewolves rather than Ultimate Werewolf’s eight. Werwölfe also features the Healer, Red Riding Hood, Cupid, and Mayor, instead of Ultimate Werewolf’s Masons, Bodyguard, Sorceress, Spellcaster, Village Idiot, and Wolf Cub.
