About this board game

Whale Riders is a 2021 board game for 2–6 players, with games lasting about 45 minutes. Players race to the end of the Ice Coast and back, trading resources and seeking precious pearls before a deep winter arrives.

For generations, the whale riders have lived alongside the ice whales and traded at the busy ports of the Ice Coast. Now, as the ice thickens and glaciers move, each player must make one final journey with their mount. Buy and sell as much as possible while pursuing the richest prizes.

Each player has two actions per turn, creating constant pressure between several tempting choices. You can sail along the coast, buy resources, sell resources, or draw more order cards. Meanwhile, opponents may move ahead and claim opportunities before you reach them.

• Two actions per turn: Choose carefully between movement, commerce, and drawing more order cards.
• Pearl-driven ending: Once all the precious pearls have been purchased, the game ends.

Will you pass up immediate opportunities in pursuit of greater treasure, or build your money steadily along the way? The best route may not be the fastest one, and every action can affect what remains available along the coast.

Designed by Reiner Knizia, Whale Riders combines a short ruleset with engaging choices and direct competition. When the final pearl is purchased, the player with the most pearls wins.
