About this board game

What Price Glory? is a two-player World War I game about the Western Front, designed for a playing time of approximately 240 minutes. Released in 2013 as part of Multi-Man Publishing’s International Game Series, it combines area and impulse play with a distinctive card-driven system.

Units represent approximately corps-sized formations, and the game unfolds over ten turns. Each turn covers half a year, giving players a structured view of the conflict while allowing their plans to develop across the campaign.

Players alternate activating units through card play. A card can provide a simple action, or its text can unlock additional or enhanced actions. Players may also use card combinations, creating more possibilities than a standard card-driven approach.

  • Alternate activations for movement and fighting
  • Card play offering simple, enhanced, and combination actions
  • Corps-sized units operating across an area-based map
  • Ten turns, with each turn representing half a year

At the start of every turn, each side chooses its hand from its entire pool of available cards. This makes anticipation and preparation central to play: selecting the right cards requires planning around your own intentions while considering what your opponent may be preparing to do.

Beginning with the third turn, one Event card is added to the available pool each turn. These cards introduce high-level options, including submarine warfare and the entry of the United States.

What Price Glory? can be taught and played to completion in three or four hours. Experienced players may reduce that time by about an hour, making it a substantial but approachable Western Front game for two players.
