About this board game
Wings of the Motherland is a 2019 air-combat game for 2–8 players, with a playing time of approximately 240 minutes. As Volume 4 of the Fighting Wings series, it covers aircraft and situations from the German invasion of Russia in Summer 1941 through the fall of Berlin in 1945.
The game builds on the Whistling Death version of the Fighting Wings rules. It includes all Whistling Death errata, while subtle changes make the sophisticated system easier to use. The scenarios focus on the evolution of fighter combat, close air support, and the low-altitude air war that characterized the Russian Front.
Wings of the Motherland places more emphasis on air-to-ground action than earlier entries in the series, while also including a number of air-naval scenarios. A planned selection of 220 scenarios provides a broad look at the changing nature of combat across the Eastern Front.
- 48 new aircraft ADCs, with very few duplicates from previous games and updated information where applicable
- Two double-sided maps providing four unique playing surfaces
- Two full counter sheets for air and ground units
- One half counter sheet containing ships and play-aid counters
- Third edition Fighting Wings rules and play aids
As a new entry in the Fighting Wings series, the game combines an extensive collection of aircraft and ground units with scenarios designed around the Russian Front’s distinctive air war. Its updated rules and substantial component set support detailed engagements spanning the entire conflict.
The original Kickstarter also added a large number of stretch goals beyond what a retail or store edition could contain. Additional content was available through a late pledge for a limited time.
