Wings of War: Famous Aces

About this board game

Wings of War: Famous Aces is a World War I aerial-combat game for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 20 minutes. It combines card and board game mechanics to recreate the era of the “knights of the air.”

Each airplane is represented by a single card that serves as a playing piece on any open surface. Players secretly choose and play movement cards simultaneously, determining the actions of the aircraft they control. Different planes use different movement decks, reflecting their distinct maneuver capabilities.

A separate deck of Fire cards represents fighting effectiveness and helps track damage during combat. The set includes five aircraft types, each depicted using accurate historical documentation:

• Spad XIII
• Albatros D Va
• Sopwith Camel
• Fokker Dr1
• Sopwith Triplane

These aircraft were flown by aces including Baracca, von Richtofen, Rickenbacker, Fonck, Olieslagers, and Bakers. The box also contains 23 planes in different colors, allowing Famous Aces to be combined with additional sets or other copies of the same game for larger battles.

Inside are four movement-card decks, one combat-card deck, rulers, counters, and a promotional card for Wings of War: Watch Your Back! The promo card depicts an Austrian two-seater Ufag C.I., offering a glimpse of the second set in the WWI collection.

As the first set in the WWI collection, Wings of War: Famous Aces provides a complete game while also serving as a foundation for expanded aerial engagements.
