About this board game
Wings Over France is a solitaire World War I wargame for one player, designed for approximately 60 minutes of play. Set during April 1917, the game places you in command of 1 to 3 RFC Flights based in Arras, France.
This infamous period became known as Bloody April because of the heavy losses suffered by the allied air force. Your objective is to sweep the skies clear of Huns while supporting the Arras ground offensive. Simply keeping your squadron operational can be an achievement.
Each day, your squadron must undertake a randomly determined number of missions. With resources and personnel limited, every assignment adds pressure to an already demanding campaign. You must face the uncertainty of daily operations while attempting to complete your objectives in the air.
- Lead 1 to 3 RFC Flights from Arras.
- Carry out reconnaissance missions, bombing raids, and attacks on enemy balloons.
- Fight through dogfights during every mission.
- Manage limited resources and personnel across the daily operations.
Although the missions have different purposes, all of them involve encounters with enemy aircraft. The game can handle more than 20 aircraft fighting in the skies simultaneously, creating large and dangerous aerial engagements.
Wings Over France focuses on the relentless demands of a WWI squadron rather than a single isolated sortie. Each day brings new assignments and the possibility of further losses, making survival itself a meaningful measure of success.
