About this expansion
Yggdrasil: Asgard is an expansion for Yggdrasil for 1–6 players, with a play time of approximately 90 minutes. It introduces a new way for the Gods to change their abilities during the game by entering a powerful Trance.
Each God can enter a Trance for one action. While in Trance, that God cannot fight in Asgard or use the God’s usual power. Instead, all the Gods, including the entranced God, receive a Trance power that can influence play in a different way.
Trance powers can affect major parts of the game. For example, the Gods may discard the Vikings’ souls after rolling the die in combat, or automatically remove five Fire giants from a bag of their choice while taking an action in the Kingdom of Fire.
Leaving Trance also requires one action. Once the God returns to the usual state, the God recovers the normal power and can fight again. To show each state, the expansion includes twelve double-sided God tiles, with the usual power on one side and the Trance power on the other.
- Six Gods from the base game: Odin, Tyr, Thor, Frey, Freyja, and Heimdall
- Two Gods from promotional cards: Frigg and Vidar
- Four new Gods: Magni, Sif, Njord, and Idunn
With its flip-to-change system and shared Trance effects, Yggdrasil: Asgard adds another layer of possibility to the Gods’ actions while expanding the roster with familiar, promotional, and new characters.
