About this board game

Yomi: Round 1 is a card-based fighting game for 1–4 players, with matches lasting about 30 minutes. It replaces the physical dexterity of a traditional fighting game with hand management skills, tactical decisions, and the challenge of reading your opponent.

Each character has a dedicated deck built around the familiar conventions of a standard deck of playing cards. Numbered cards are normal moves, face cards are special moves, and aces are powerful super moves. To succeed, you need to know your character, understand the matchup, and anticipate what your opponent may do next.

This standalone 2014 release includes four characters for the second edition of Yomi: Grave, Jaina, Midori, and Setsuki. The set contains the Grave versus Jaina starter set and the Midori versus Setsuki pairing. Every player needs one character deck.

  • Grave: A versatile and powerful fighter with one of the game’s strongest super moves. Reading your opponent well can help you gain more Dragonheart attacks.
  • Jaina: An aggressive character who can buy back attacks by paying life. Unstable Power lets her risk more for additional super moves, while her blocked attacks still deal significant damage.
  • Midori: A defensive grappler who can transform into a green dragon, making his moves much more powerful. In Dragon Form, he can block to retrieve cards from his discard pile.
  • Setsuki: A fast ninja who can often refill her hand after a combo, recur certain cards, and escape danger.

Yomi: Round 1 supports 1v1, 2v2, 2v1, and solo modes. Its character decks can also face characters from Yomi: Round 2 or the individual decks in the second edition of Yomi.
