About this board game
Zauberschwert & Drachenei is a fantasy adventure game for 2–4 players, with play time of about 45 minutes. Each player guides a mage through a series of Adventures, seeking power stones, Magical Energy, and victory points.
At the start of each turn, every player receives two Magical Energy. Two Adventure cards are then revealed, and players secretly choose where to send their mages—or pass to gain an additional Energy. Once all choices are made, the Adventures are resolved.
- Magic Spells are auctioned between the mages present and can provide additional Energy or victory points.
- Orbs grant Energy to each mage sent there.
- Holy Sites award victory points and a random Artifact card.
- Monsters can be claimed through an auction, rewarding the winner with Magical Energy and/or victory points.
Monster encounters offer an alternative to competition: players may skip the auction and cooperate to defeat the creature, although the shared victory is smaller. This creates meaningful choices when deciding whether to outbid rivals or work together.
After the Adventures are resolved, players may trade and play Artifacts. Some Artifacts are useful only in pairs, while played cards can provide Magical Energy, victory points, or both.
The game continues until the Adventure deck is depleted. In Zauberschwert & Drachenei, careful energy management, timely auctions, and the right combination of spells, artifacts, and herbs can help a mage rise to victory. The player with the most victory points at the end wins.
