About this expansion

Down in Flames Squadron Pack 2: Bombers is a 2007 expansion for the Down in Flames WWII air combat card game system, designed for 2 players and games lasting about 30 minutes.

Following the first Squadron Pack’s focus on fighters, this pack adds Light Bombers and Formation aircraft to the system. Its 64 new aircraft cards include famous machines such as the B-25H, with its 75mm gun, and the Il-2m3 Shturmovik, alongside less familiar aircraft including the Hs-129B-1/R2 and the Italian CANT Z.501 Gabbiano flying boat.

The included rules offer several ways to use these aircraft beyond a standard campaign. Formation aircraft can be added to basic game dogfights, while generic stand-alone missions let players plug in suitable aircraft. Formation planes can also face one another in Gunnery Duels, creating clashes such as a Short Stirling versus an FW-200 Condor.

  • 64 aircraft cards printed eight to a sheet in the enhanced Squadron Pack style
  • Rules for using Formation aircraft in dogfights and Gunnery Duels
  • Generic missions for stand-alone play
  • Rules for the Hs 293 radio-controlled air-to-surface missile and Fritz X radio-controlled glide bomb
  • Reprinted rules from Corsairs and Hellcats

Squadron Pack 2: Bombers also includes a short rulebook and an 11×17 wraparound cover featuring artwork by Rodger MacGowan. The inside of the cover forms a play mat for Gunnery Duels, giving these larger aircraft engagements a dedicated playing area.
