About this board game
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Deck-Building Game is a deck-building game for 2–5 players that plays in about 30 minutes. Take the role of Frodo, Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Samwise, or Boromir and join the struggle against Sauron’s forces.
Each hero has a unique special power available only to that player. Everyone begins with a personal ten-card deck and draws five cards each turn. Use Power to acquire stronger cards, gradually shaping your starting deck into a more effective engine for the journey toward Mount Doom.
New options come from The Path, a central stack that maintains a five-card, face-up line-up. Every turn offers five cards to consider, creating changing opportunities and surprises as players expand their decks.
- Enemies and Allies to add to your deck
- Artifacts and Manoeuvres that support your strategy
- Locations representing important places in the adventure
When you have gathered enough Power, you can challenge the more dangerous foes in the Archenemy deck, including Saruman and the Balrog. Defeating an Archenemy brings valuable victory points, but also reveals a new threat that attacks every player. Defense cards such as Boromir’s Shield, Mithril Armor, and “You Shall Not Pass!” can help protect you.
Nearly every acquired card contributes victory points, with Archenemies offering the greatest rewards. In The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Deck-Building Game, the player whose deck contains the most victory points at the end wins.
