About this board game

[kosmopoli:t] is a cooperative restaurant challenge for 4–8 players that recreates an evening service in just six minutes. Customers from around the world request typical dishes in one of sixty languages, and the team must identify, relay, assemble, and serve each order.

One player becomes the Waitress, managing the restaurant room through the app. Wearing earphones, she takes customer orders and passes the information to the kitchen, especially to the Maitre d’Hotel. The Maitre d’Hotel notes the orders, repeats them to the cooks, and coordinates the entire service between the dining room and kitchen.

  • Waitress: takes orders in the app and serves completed dishes.
  • Maitre d’Hotel: records, repeats, coordinates, and manages the flow of information.
  • Cooks: manage food-type card piles and act as experts for a continent.

Each cook has cards for a continent, with every card representing a language and showing the six dishes served in that language. Dishes are written using a French-understood transliteration and paired with an ingredient name and drawing. When a cook identifies an order, they request any needed ingredient from another cook, then pass the language and ingredient cards to the head waiter.

The head waiter adds the relevant table card and gives the completed information to the Waitress. She then selects the table, ingredient, and language in the app to serve the customer. In [kosmopoli:t], clear communication and coordination are essential.

The game is scalable, beginning with level 1 and unlocking further levels, new ingredients, and new languages. With a hundred goals to achieve, there are scores to beat and surprises to discover, including Michelin Guide inspectors and even nonexistent dishes.
