About this board game

War of the Ring Collector’s Edition is a strategic fantasy wargame for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 180 minutes. One player commands the Free Peoples, while the other controls the Shadow Armies in a struggle for the fate of Middle-earth.

Victory can come through military conquest. The Shadow wins by capturing a certain number of Free People cities and strongholds, while the Free Peoples can pursue similar military conditions. The Free Peoples also have another path: guide the Ringbearer secretly to Mount Doom and complete the quest to destroy the One Ring.

Hidden movement keeps Sauron uncertain about the Fellowship’s true intentions, forcing the Shadow player to search across Middle-earth for the Ring. Meanwhile, the Free Peoples must balance protecting the Ringbearer against building a defense strong enough to withstand the Shadow armies before the quest is complete.

Each turn, a limited and varied set of choices is determined by the roll of action dice. These dice shape the actions available, ranging from decisions involving individual characters to political and military choices that support broader strategies.

With more difficult choices about strategy and resources, War of the Ring Collector’s Edition offers a deeper and more comprehensive version of the Ring War, enriched by additional armies and characters from the Tolkien saga.
