Keep the Heroes Out!

About this board game

Keep the Heroes Out! is an asymmetric cooperative dungeon-defense game for 1–4 players, with a play time of about 40 minutes. Players take the roles of monsters protecting their hard-earned treasures from invading hordes of looters known as heroes.

Each scenario challenges the team to defend the treasures in every room while surviving two waves of invading heroes. The main treasure is the critical objective: if the heroes take it, the game ends in defeat. Protect the treasures for long enough, and the whole team wins.

On a player’s turn, they draw five cards and use them to carry out actions in the dungeon. Cards can provide movement, activate tiles and their actions, let monsters attack heroes, and move units around the play area.

After each player finishes, cards are drawn and performed from the heroes deck, keeping the invasion moving throughout the game. Players must work together to protect the rooms and prevent the looters from reaching the most important treasure.

With its monster-versus-hero premise and shared defensive objective, Keep the Heroes Out! turns the usual dungeon adventure on its head. Instead of raiding a dungeon, players cooperate to hold it against the forces trying to steal its riches.
