About this board game
Dark Rituals: Malleus Maleficarum is an asymmetric one-vs-many miniatures board game for 2 to 5 players, with an average play time of 90 minutes. A team of Heroes defends villagers and their lands while one player commands the malevolent Witches and the Forces of Evil.
The game is set during the Dark Ages, after a Conjunction brings Earth and the alternate plane of Neemoss into alignment. Items crossing between dimensions retain their magical essence, but the danger escalates when Witches from Neemoss enter Earth and summon disciples to help complete their rituals.
Players on both sides manage a pool of stamina to pay for their characters’ actions. Turns alternate between the forces, with a player on each side taking one or two actions at a time as long as they have stamina remaining. This creates dynamic play with little downtime while the Heroes and Witches pursue opposing objectives.
- Asymmetric conflict: Heroes face a single player controlling the invading Forces of Evil.
- Scenario-driven play: Each scenario features unique objectives and can be played individually or linked into a campaign.
- Immersive presentation: Detailed miniatures, modular boards, and story-driven scenarios bring the setting to life.
Heroes must master their newfound magical powers to protect their lands from the invading horde. Meanwhile, the Witch player seeks to complete dark rituals and ravage Earth. An expansion adds a solo mode in which one player controls the Witch Master.
With its magical setting, alternating actions, and opposing victory goals, Dark Rituals: Malleus Maleficarum offers a focused battle between desperate defenders and an advancing supernatural threat.
