About this board game
Twelve Heroes is a two-player strategy game with a 30-minute play time, released in 2016. Each player takes the role of a landlord commanding twelve units while competing to claim land cards across three regions.
Land cards provide victory points, and the first player to reach seven victory points wins. Before the game begins, each player constructs a personal deck of twelve unit cards, creating the foundation for their approach to the contest.
Every turn is divided into four phases:
- Control
- Maintenance
- Income
- Military
The military phase is the central part of play. During it, you can muster units, deploy them to regions, move them between regions, or add food directly. These actions use action points, so deciding how to spend them is an important part of each turn.
Food is a crucial resource in Twelve Heroes. You need it to muster units and to activate units that are already operating in a region. Careful food management helps you maintain your forces while still having enough resources to pursue valuable land cards.
Victory depends on more than simply sending units into the three regions. Players must balance their available action points and food while seeking to maximize the synergies between their units. Build an effective twelve-card force, manage its needs, and compete for land until one landlord reaches the winning total.
