About this board game

For What Remains: Streets of Ruin is a skirmish-level post-apocalyptic wargame for 1–2 players, with games lasting around 45 minutes. Set in a near-future world devastated by conflict, it supports competitive two-player battles and solitaire play.

Streets of Ruin focuses on two factions: the Freemen Coalition, a loose-knit band of human rebels who specialize in guerrilla warfare, and the Combine, the military arm of the government ruling over much of what remains of the world. Players control characters from one of the game’s six factions.

Rather than making combat the only path to victory, For What Remains is driven by scenarios with multiple objectives. In a skirmish, players compete for victory points by completing those objectives. Campaigns link a series of skirmishes into a larger narrative, with consequences and character development carrying forward between games.

  • Skirmishes: Standalone games focused on achieving a single victory.
  • Campaigns: Connected scenarios that create a continuing story.
  • Modular battlefields: Build the default destroyed urban setting from nine tiles, each divided into a 7×7 movement grid.
  • Character progression: Characters can advance from Recruit to Veteran and then Elite, improving attributes and gaining new abilities.

Each character is represented by a counter and has a matching character card and tokens. A chit pull activation system determines when units act, while a step-loss system tracks injuries during skirmishes.

Released in 2020, For What Remains: Streets of Ruin can be played as a standalone set or combined with other sets in the series to create a broader narrative.
