About this board game

CastleScape is a medieval deck-building area-control game for 2–4 players, with sessions lasting about 90 minutes. Each player leads a Guild competing to build a magnificent castle, earn Renown, and become the most influential guild in the land.

Players begin with a basic deck containing gold, recruits, walls, and a few clumsy thieves, along with hidden goals. The shared board starts with a single central wall. From there, players must build outward by adding walls adjacent to existing ones, creating Baileys whose completion can bring valuable rewards.

When a Bailey is completed, its size determines how much Renown it offers. The Guild with the most Influence in that Bailey claims the Renown, making every expansion a contest for both space and credit. Recruits help spread Influence, while gold can be spent on cards and other opportunities.

  • Build walls and shape a procedurally developed castle.
  • Compete for Influence across completed Baileys.
  • Gather recruits, spend gold, and expand your deck.
  • Complete hidden and public goals, as well as Quests.
  • Take questionable actions in the Back Alley while managing Infamy and Corruption.

The King periodically visits to inspect the castle. If Guilds have accumulated too much Infamy through shady dealings, the inspection strips away Influence, creating another way to reshape control of the board. Corruption can also reduce a player’s points, so powerful plays must be balanced against their consequences.

With hidden objectives, a changing castle, and a Market featuring both static and rotating card options, CastleScape is designed to offer substantial replayability. Its central board creates direct interaction between players, rewarding careful planning, clever combinations, and timely attempts to claim credit for the King’s growing stronghold.
